AI That Reads Defenses

What is Rush MVP?

Rush MVP is a computer vision football utility app designed to support gameplay in modern football simulation titles such as Madden. Using real-time computer vision, Rush MVP analyzes the pre-snap defensive look and identifies:

  • The likely coverage shell or defensive concept (e.g Cover-1, Cover-2, Cover-3, Cover-4, Cover-6, Man Blitz)

  • Down and distance, providing situational context to inform the read.

Rush MVP is intended to support pre-snap decision-making by helping players recognize defensive structure more quickly and consistently.

Players use Rush MVP to improve football awareness, make informed reads, and play with greater confidence – in both fast-paced online gameplay and offline modes.

How It Works (Usage)

Users broadcast their gameplay from console or PC to Twitch and enter their Twitch username in the Rush MVP app, allowing the app to locate the live stream.

Once the football game (e.g Madden) has started and the in-game camera is set to Standard Alternate, the player is ready to scan the defense.

While on offense and before the snap, users must allow the defense to fully settle into position. Pressing the ‘Scan Coverage’ button triggers Rush MVP to analyze the pre-snap defensive look shown on the screen.

The app returns a clear, high-level read focused on defensive shell and structure, intended for quick pre-snap decision support.

Step-by-step instructions are also available in short video format within the app.

How It Works (Technical)

Rush MVP uses a combination of computer vision and machine learning to analyze the live gameplay feed provided through a player’s Twitch stream.

When a scan is triggered, the app captures the current pre-snap frame and processes it using vision models trained to recognize defensive alignment, and overall field geometry. From the visual information, the system identifies the most likely defensive shell and contextual factors such as down and distance.

The analysis is designed to be:

  • Fast, returning results within 5 seconds.

  • Lightweight, focusing only on key visual cues that matter pre-snap.

  • Interpretive, mirroring how quarterbacks form reads based on structure.

Rush MVP does not read controller input, access game code, or alter gameplay in any way. It relies solely on what is visible on screen, similar to how a human would analyze a defensive look.

The result is a high-level, pre-snap read intended to support decision-making.

How Accurate It Is

Rush MVP isn’t designed to just tell players the coverage — with repeated use, players naturally start to see the field differently. Whether a read is right or wrong in the strict textbook sense, the app gives players a framework for understanding what’s happening pre-snap and what to watch for post-snap.

From a defensive shell and structural standpoint, Rush MVP correctly identifies the defensive geometry over 90% of the time. This means the AI reliably recognizes safety depth, corner leverage, linebacker positioning, and overall alignment — the same visual cues quarterbacks use to form their pre-snap read. This is where the biggest learning and confidence gains happen.

When measuring true post-snap correctness — including disguised coverages and late rotations — Rush MVP currently achieves approximately 74% accuracy. This reflects the reality of football: many coverages are intentionally designed to look identical before the snap and only reveal themselves after the play begins.

Importantly, even when Rush MVP is wrong, it is usually wrong for the right reasons — which is exactly how real quarterbacks learn.

Why this still makes players better

For example, a Cover 1 Robber is often disguised to look identical to a standard Cover 2 shell pre-snap. Both may show two high safeties, similar linebacker depth, and comparable corner alignment. In this situation, Rush MVP may initially identify the look as Cover 2 — which is a completely reasonable pre-snap read.

Once the ball is snapped, the player can observe a safety rotating down into the middle of the field, revealing Cover 1 Robber. This moment becomes a teaching rep: the player learns why the disguise worked and what to look for next time.

The process of forming a hypothesis, observing rotation, and adjusting, is exactly how quarterbacks develop coverage recognition in real football.

Rush MVP accelerates that learning loop, allowing players to naturally confirm or disprove their reads in real time.

The takeaway for players

Rush MVP isn’t about being perfect on every snap. Real football isn’t played that way.

It’s about:

  • Significantly reducing guesswork

  • Developing pattern recognition

  • Increasing confidence in online & offline game modes

  • Teaching players to think like a quarterback

And that’s why players may likely report feeling more confident and more aware of defensive structure after just a few games of use.

Benefits To Online (Or Offline) Players

Rush MVP is designed for use during the pre-snap window of gameplay - both online or offline.

The app analyzes the defensive look within approximately 5 seconds on average, and returns a clear, high-level read focused on defensive shell and structure, while also factoring in situational context such as down and distance. Rush MVP is intended specifically for pre-snap use, once the defense has fully taken their positions.

Because the output is intentionally simple and focused, players don’t need to stop or slow the game down. There’s enough time to:

  • glance at the read

  • confirm it visually on the field

  • make a small adjustment if needed

Rush MVP isn’t meant to interrupt gameplay — it fits within the same pre-snap time window players already use to scan the defense. If there is sufficient time on the play clock, players can use the read to inform their decision; if not, the read still reinforces pattern recognition for future snaps.

In fast-paced online matches, this means players aren’t reacting late. They’re snapping the ball with a plan, even when the game is moving quickly.
